Meet Mrs. Butterworth!

Hello there! I'm Jessica, the owner and photographer at Behind the Shutter LLC. Yes, my name really is Mrs. Butterworth! I have a knack for getting genuine smiles and laughs out of my clients, even if it means acting silly or making animal noises. Don't be surprised if I enlist the help of a parent or friend to get that perfect shot if they are trying super hard to stay stoic.

I enjoy working with all age groups, but somewhere along my journey, I discovered that I absolutely love working with high school seniors in and around Grand Blanc, Michigan.  I've recently focused on creating unique and enjoyable experiences for upcoming graduates, so their senior portraits truly reflect who they are. I welcome my clients' creative ideas, passions, and favorite locations, so their portraits can tell their story.  After all, you want these portraits to tell their story.  Senior year races by so fast, and there are so many things to do.  Let me help you take the guesswork out of what can easily be an overwhelming senior year.  As a parent of a recent high school senior, I understand the rollercoaster of emotions you (and they)  are on.  I understand just how important this time is because I’ve been in your shoes.

Pictures of my family and friends line the walls and the shelves of my home. After my family, these are my most cherished possessions. Photos of my son growing up, the places we have visited, and the experiences we have had along the way are everywhere. These photos are the story of our lives. These pictures display what is most important to me. Especially now that my son has left the nest.  I have been documenting my life, and my family's lives, in photos since I was just a little girl. As with most anything in life, the more pictures I took the better I got. I am not obsessed with photography, it is a part of who I am, I see the world through a lens. Figuratively and literally. I love being able to capture a memory and make it into an image that someone can look at 10, 20, even 30 years later and it still brings a smile to their face.
